What is ROTF?

What is ROTF? Very simply, it is and is all about PEOPLE. To follow is the backstory of this technology initiative centered around and based upon people that is being developed here at Texmark.

Roughly two years ago, Texmark began investigating how we could employ technology to increase worker safety, improve efficiencies, reduce costs, and take profitable action. This led us to conversations with Texmark employees and then with HPE. These conversations have led to a collaborative initiative we call Refinery of the Future (ROTF). ROTF is a multi-phased project that involves numerous ecosystem partners. As known, there is not a single-company that can deliver a complete, turn-key IIoT solution.

It cannot be emphasized enough that it is the PEOPLE who make this project successful. It is the clear and honest communication between the Texmark team, the HPE team, and the ecosystem partners that drives us all to intentionally and deliberately progress with purpose. Starting small, proving the technology, and then scaling up and out allows us to effectively demonstrate to stakeholders that we are on the right path. The IIoT solutions that are being proven at Texmark are replicable across industries.

The first phase of ROTF involved building a hardware foundation that included: the installation in the plant of an Aruba ubiquitous wireless network, the installation of four HPE Edgeline EL4000s, and the buildout and placement of an HPE MicrodataCenter. This hardware foundation was completed in June 2017. Since then, five use-case solutions are being built with our ecosystem of partners.

These use-case solutions include (and are not limited to):

  • Wireless sensoring
    • Predictive analytics
    • Process analytics
  • Advanced video analytics
  • Safety and security
  • Connected worker
  • Full lifecycle asset management (digital twin)

Current ecosystem partners include people (and their technology) from:

Allied Reliability Group
Aruba
CB Technologies
Deloitte
Flowserve
HPE
Intel
National Instruments
OSIsoft
PTC
RealWear
Schneider Electric
Spark Cognition
